I would like to thank everyone for participating in the 2012 Barney Student Scramble.
My tournament originated when I was the golf coach for Sycamore High School (about 10 years ago). As soon as I get hired, I ask the Athletic Director: "So, how much money do I have in the budget…?", and he starts to laugh… Yeah, you guessed it, there is no money. So, here I am having these kids qualify to make the team and I am in a situation of telling the parents of the kids who make the team: "Congratulations!! Your son (or daughter) has made the team. Now you owe me $200 (for a golf bag, golf shirt or two…)" So, I did not think that was right, so I came up with the Barney Scramble.
Since then, I have used money from the tournament for kids and junior golf. Last year, I used some of the money to send golf balls to the troops in Afghanistan. This year however, a young man who works at the golf course, his mom got killed in a car accident bringing him to work one morning a week or two before the tournament. So, some of the money of the tournament went towards him and his family.
If you are a Barney Student (or Alumni) and you were not contacted about this year's tournament, I apologize, and I promise it was not intentional. We ran into some technical difficulties with sending out the information. But expect there to be another tournament next year. Usually, be looking for the 3rd week in October.
So, to those who played this year, Thank You again for playing, and I hope you had a great time. For those who either did not know about it, or were not available, start getting ready for next year.
