Hello! I'm Michel Alary, but have been know as “Barney” for over fifteen years, since I was at Austin Peay. My dad was a golf professional for thirty-eight years, so I grew up involved in golf even before people started calling me Barney.
I have now been teaching golf professionally for about 13 years, and have been teaching at Riverside Golf Center for over six years now. Previously, I was the Head Golf Instructor at Through The Green, Highland Rim in Joelton for seven years. I was also responsible for the Junior Golf Camps for one year at Through The Green, Franklin.
I have given lessons to thousands of people (300 last year alone). I have been analyzing golf swings since I was 10, so there are not a lot of swings I haven’t seen. But better yet, I have developed the experience and communication skills of explaining to you what is happening, and am knowledgeable on applying simple drills to help you.
From 1988 to 1992 I played golf for Austin Peay State University. During my time there, I won two college tournaments, one of which was the 1991 Ohio Valley Conference Championship and was subsequently named 1991 O.V.C. Player of the Year.
In 2011, 3 of my junior students qualified for Tennessee’s state finals.
Through the years, and with the help of my dad, we accumulated what I consider to be the most extensive grouping of swing sequences in the Southeast which are at our disposal to see what the best players in the world are doing compared to you.
Here are some other reasons to consider taking a golf lesson with me at Riverside:
All Lessons are one hour long
No extra charge for on the course lessons!
Access to an indoor/outdoor teaching building (equipped with heat) that can provide shelter if we have bad weather (rain, snow, cold, AND shade when it is hot!).
The teaching building is equipped with video to capture your golf swing and show you what I am looking at.
We have a HUGE driving range (could be the biggest in Nashville).
You have 27 holes to choose from, if and when we go on a playing lesson.
You can practice on a very well conditioned (and mostly private) putting and chipping green.
You have access to two practice greenside bunkers.
